People are just realising their Wi-Fi speed is instantly faster when they make a small adjustment to the router
A TWO-MINUTE trick can instantly boost your Wi-Fi speeds if your router is fitted with antennas, experts at Plusnet have revealed.
It’s only a minor adjustment, but it can make a world of difference.
“Many wireless routers – especially older models – will include adjustable antennas,” Plusnet writes in a help blog on its website.
“It’s advisable to tweak these to try and achieve the best reception.”
But how do you know what angle to move them to?
“As a general rule, if you’ve placed your router upstairs to try and achieve a stronger signal across two floors, it’s best to turn the antennae sideways,” Plusnet explains.
“And if it’s placed on the ground floor, its advisable to turn your antennae upwards.”
The placement of a wireless router can have a big impact on the speed and quality of broadband.
Anything from mirrors and fridges, to the room you choose to place it in can affect your browsing.
If there aren’t any antennas on your router, that means they’re inside the device.
So, you won’t be able to change their position.
In which case, make sure your router is in the best place to serve your gadgets – and not in any dreaded ‘Wi-fi sucker’ rooms.
Generally, it should be high up and central in the home, away from metal objects.
Experts at Plusnet suggest not settling for the first location you place your Wi-Fi router.
“Experiment by changing the location of your router to see if the signal strength or stability improves on your various devices,” say experts.
“This can help you find the perfect spot, so you can achieve the most powerful and reliable Wi-Fi connection possible.”
