I was left horrified after receiving a chilling note from my neighbour – I now fear for my dog’s life
A DOG owner was left horrified after receiving a very chilling note from their neighbour.
The person got a typed out, anonymous letter addressing their pooch’s barking.
The angry note read: “SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOUR DOG IF YOU DON’T GET IT’S BARKING UNDER CONTROL.”
The note was typed out and printed on a sheet of paper as a very ominous warning.
And clearly with the capital letters, the neighbour was very upset.
An image of the angry note was shared on Reddit, and people were quick to chime in with their views.
The poster added the caption: “Someone anonymously sent this to my neighbour.”
Some people were shocked at the note, with one saying: “Wow, that’s nasty.”
Others took a light-hearted approach to the creepy message, with one joking: “If they were serious, they would have used comic sans.”
Another continued: “They would have cut out letters from different magazines and glued them onto a piece of paper.”
However, some Reddit users were on the note-writer’s side.
One reasoned: “I wouldn’t hurt a dog, but understand that the barking is annoying to your neighbours.”
A second wrote: “I love animals, but a dog barking 24/7 might push me over the edge.”
According to the Environmental Protection Act 1990, any loud noise emitted from a house that interferes with their enjoyment can be considered a “statutory nuisance”.
This includes ‘any animal kept in such a place or manner as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance ’ or, as government guidance on noise nuisances explains, ‘barking dogs’.
If your neighbours complain about noise in the area, local authorities have a duty to investigate and take formal action if needed.
The government website states that you could receive an unlimited fine if you aren’t able to comply with a noise abatement notice.
One homeowner was fined £9,000 after their neighbours complained about the noise of their 38 dogs.
