I got eyelash extensions to look glam for Ibiza – my entire face swelled up and I had to spend £180 on a hospital trip
EYELASH extensions can be a totally glam solution to not wanting to apply mascara or falsies everyday.
But as with any beauty treatment, it’s always important to follow all the right procedures and to have a patch test, because some people’s bodies can react badly.
One unfortunate TikToker found this out the hard way, after she got lash extensions for the first time before a holiday to Ibiza.
In a video shared on her TikTok account @gembethan, Gem shared the disaster that ensued after the procedure.
The first snap showed her eyes looking a “little bit red” the morning after she had the falsies applied, but she admitted that “was expected” given it was the first time she’d had it done.
She next added a clip of her eyes on the first night of the trip, by which time they were much more red, swollen and irritated.
Gem then shared a video “after pulling them off for four hours”, presumably in a desperate to stop the reaction.
Unfortunately, it was seemingly too little too late, as her eyes were by this point painfully watery and super red.
The unfortunate customer’s next snap was what she “woke up to” on the first proper day of her girls holiday: her eyelids were completely distorted because they’d ballooned so much.
Even with the lashes off, poor Gem’s face just kept getting more swollen, and in a snap later that day they appeared “so much worse”.
The last shot showed Gem in a Spanish hospital, where she revealed she had to pay £170 to see an emergency doctor.
The doomed holidaymaker ended up having to have an injection in her bum, and take steroids for the whole week.
The clip amassed a huge 3.6m views on the app, with Gem revealing that she even missed Calvin Harris because of the scare.
Viewers flocked to the comments to stress how important it is to follow all the safety procedures when getting a new treatment.
“Did you get a glue patch test before your appointment?” one asked. “Feel so sorry for you, it looks so irritated.”
“At least your eyebrows were on fleek,” another optimistic user commented.
“Hahahaha,” Gem wrote back. “All I had going for me.”
