James Argent breaks down in floods of tears on Celeb SAS after battling drug addiction and binging before weight loss
JAMES ‘Arg’ Argent breaks down in floods of tears in a new trailer for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The ex-Towie star is forced to confront his past demons in a gruelling interview with chief instructors on the Channel 4 show.
Who Dares Wins is returning to TV screens on September 26 with seven 60-minute episodes featuring chief instructor Mark “Billy” Billingham and his directing staff Jason “Foxy” Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver.
The Sun revealed last year that Arg had filmed the challenging reality series in the jungle with the show’s biggest line-up ever, which includes Melinda Messenger, Gareth Gates, and Gareth Thomas.
And it looks like the reality king – who quit boozing and binging two years ago – was put through the ringer.
In a first look at the new series the 34-year-old star is seen crying uncontrollably in difficult to watch scenes.
“It’s the type of show that pushes you to breaking point and it’s something I’ll never forget. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” James said of signing up.
He added in a post on Instagram: “I’m honoured to reveal that I have taken part in this years #SASWhoDaresWins.
“It was honestly one of the hardest physical and mental challenges of my life.
“A year before I entered the course I was weighing 27 stone and I couldn’t even tie my own shoe laces. To even pass the medical to compete was a win in itself.
“I tried my very best, I hope people see a different side to me and I make everyone proud.”
The star, who performs as a wedding singer all over Europe with The Arg Band, now weighs a healthy 14st after tipping the scales at 27st, has been focusing on his recovery from a seven-year cocaine addiction.
Arg told The Sun earlier this year: “My lowest point was just when I hit rock bottom, and I was in an awful place.
“You know, there’s been times, it was well documented, that I’d end up in an ambulance and be taken to hospital and things like that. But I’m a long way away from that now.
“Sometimes you have to be careful. Your brain can say to you like, ‘Oh, was it really that bad? Or, ‘it will be different this time, you can control it this time’.
“I have to be reminded, it’s important for me to be reminded about how bad things were.”
The fifth celebrity series is a spin-off of the original SAS: Who Dares Wins which saw civilians put through military training exercises to test their physical and mental strength.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 on September 26 at 9.30pm.
