I’m an interior pro – 5 items to avoid buying at Target, repurpose stuff you already have or find on Facebook for cheap
AN interior designer has discovered five items from Target that are much cheaper on Facebook Marketplace.
The expert said savvy spenders can buy home decor from estate sales, Etsy, or Poshmark.
TikToker Dream and Dwell (@dreamanddwell) told her followers in a new video that they could save money on retro finds.
The first tip on her list was about the faux brass candlesticks from Target, which are “actually aluminum.”
Dream and Dwell said searching for “brass candlesticks” on Facebook Marketplace could yield better results.
“You can usually find them for cheaper, and you can always find them at estate sales, too,” she said. “They polish up nicely.”
Dream and Dwell said “decorative moss balls” were a waste.
“Just put fruit in a bowl that you already have,” she said. “Use the fruit and refill it. It looks so much better.”
People might like how Target’s rustic vessels with faux olive branches look, but the interior design expert said to avoid them “altogether.”
Instead, look for “rustic Italian vessels” on Facebook Marketplace.
They can also be found at estate sales — and the designer has a great hack.
“Go on the second day of the sale for a 50 percent discount,” she suggested.
If you still want the look of faux greenery, Dream and Dwell said to add branches from your yard.
Next on the list is knockoff Nemadji pottery from Target.
Nemadji pottery is from the Arrowhead region of Minnesota, according to The Antiques Almanac.
Prices for original pieces can range from $180 up to $150 or more, per Crafts Hero.
But you can find authentic Nemajdi pottery at antique stores, Etsy, or Poshmark for cheaper, the creator revealed.
“The real stuff is gorgeous,” she said. “I highly recommend getting it.”
Last on the designer’s list was “modern vessels” from Target or H&M.
“Just look for them on Facebook Marketplace,” she explained. “You can usually find them for a fraction of the cost.”
