Emmerdale’s Cathy Hope finds cure for her condition – but is banned from even considering it
EMMERDALE’S Cathy Hope has discovered a cure for her health condition – but has been banned from even considering it.
The teenager suffers from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) which causes her to have severe episodes of mood swings for half the month.
It coincides with the weeks leading up to her period and has seen her behaviour spiral out of control.
During the episodes, she is unable to control herself and has put herself and others’ lives at risk.
But after months away with her brother Scott, Cathy has found a cure for her condition – but it is drastic.
She has discovered that PMDD can sometimes be stopped entirely by the removal of her reproductive system.
It would require a bilateral-oophorectomy (removal of her ovaries) and a full hysterectomy.
However, her dad Bob was horrified and immediately shut down all discussion.
Cathy was forced to visit her doctor, Liam Cavanagh, who confirmed it would work but that she wouldn’t be considered for the operation at such a young age.
But that didn’t stop Cathy and she found a doctor in America who would be willing to perform the surgery.
That was quickly shut down by Bob – not least because of the cost running into thousands of pounds – but Cathy was undeterred.
Instead, she stole her dad’s credit card and booked a consultation with an American doctor who would do the procedure that would cure her condition.
“I wondered if I could book a video appointment with you guys,” she said.
“I’m based in the UK. Is that OK? I can pay it now.”
Fans of the ITV show had little sympathy for Cathy and had strong opinions on her actions.
Taking to social media, one user wrote: “Cathy is defo gonna get scammed.”
A second said: “Just handover all the cash before any information or consultation, omg clueless Cathy a scammers dream date.”
Another added: “Cathy is too much isn’t she really she just needs to be told and she won’t listen.”
