We live in UK seaside town loved by celebs but it’s being slowly ruined by POO pumped into the sea – it’s driving us mad
RESIDENTS who live in a UK seaside town loved by celebrities say it’s being slowly ruined by POO pumped into the sea.
Whitstable‘s proximity to London means crowds of tourists descend each weekend and during school holidays, for beach time, boutique shopping and seafood.
But locals fear the picturesque town in Kent is now under threat due to the amount of sewage that is being released into the sea by Southern Water.
Protesters, including singer Feargal Sharkey and comic actor Paul Whitehouse, will gather in the town on Saturday.
SOS Whitstable member Ed Acteson told Express.co.uk: “We (SOS Whitstable) are extremely concerned about the impact of the ongoing sewage pollution crisis on our town.
“It is extremely detrimental to the environment, poses a significant risk to public health and is damaging the reputation of Whitstable and our local businesses.
“We welcome promises of further investment in infrastructure by Southern Water but do not feel as though they have gone far enough or fast enough to this point.”
Whitstable suffered the most storm overflow releases in Kent in 2022, according to SOS Whitstable.
Jon Yates, Southern Water pathfinder delivery lead for Kent, said: “Tackling storm overflows is our top priority and I can assure everyone in Whitstable that we’re fully focused on using every tool at our disposal to ensure that storm overflows are significantly reduced.
“We’re doing this through working with partners and creating nature-based and engineering solutions.
“But this work will take time and our focus is to find what works and then scale it up across our region so we can see positive results.”
Last summer the seaside town made headlines when Hollywood actor Aaron Paul spent time chilling there.
The Breaking Bad star stayed in the area and was seen flying a kite and relaxing.
James Bond star Daniel Craig and his Hollywood actress wife Rachel Weiss have also been spotted enjoying long lunches at the Whitstable Oyster Company.
Ex-pornstar Mia Khalifa said the British seaside town was better than the US city of Miami.
