British boffins invent first ‘cancer free’ hot dog — to the fury of Germans

BRITISH boffins have invented the first “cancer free” hot dog — to the fury of the Germans.

The breakthrough comes after The Sun told of bacon on supermarket shelves that was free from deadly nitrites back in 2017.

Northern Irish meat firm Finnebrogue has unveiled its Naked Frankfurter

Now the same team of meat- loving scientists have invented a similar Frankfurter.

Traditionally Germany’s favourite sausage, the much-loved wiener, used to be packed with nitrites which the World Health Organisation says cause bowel cancer.

But now Northern Irish meat firm Finnebrogue has unveiled its Naked Frankfurter — just in time for Germany’s annual bear and sausage-fuelled Oktoberfest.

It will come as a major embarrassment for the massive German meat industry — which produces 650 million wieners a year.

They have claimed for decades it was not possible to make a safer sausage.

The banger will be available in Asda, Morrisons and Ocado stores across the UK — but not yet in Germany.

They are expected to go on sale for £3 per pack.

Nitrites are used to cure pork and keep it pink, providing the traditional colour of bacon and hot dogs.

But doctors say when Nitrites are eaten, they produce nitrosamines in the stomach.

The WHO says these deadly chemicals are linked to 34,000 cases of the deadly disease every year.

Finnebrogue chief boffin Declan Ferguson said last night: “So many of us love a Frankfurter but choose to avoid them because of the presence of nitrites.

“Now sausage-lovers up and down the UK can enjoy a delicious hot dog without these dangerous chemicals.”
