M6 traffic: Severe delays as ‘serious incident’ closes entire carriageway – with drivers stuck in 10-MILE queues
THERE are severe delays on the M6 after a “serious incident” has closed the entire carriageway.
Drivers are currently stuck in a 10-mile queue during Thursday rush hour as motorway cameras show lorries and cars at a standstill.
The M6 heading southbound, near Coventry, West Mids, is shut between junction 4a and junction 2.
National Highways was alerted to the incident around 4.30am today.
Traffic officers and Warwickshire Police rushed to the scene – but it has not yet been revealed what has happened.
“Due to the nature of the incident” delays are expected for the rest of the morning.
Diversion Route
Diversions are in place for motorists while officers deal with the incident.
National Highways have the following route in place:
Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol between J4a – J4
- Leave the M6 at J4a and join the M42 headed northbound towards J9
- Exit the M42 at J9 and take the 6th exit to re-join the M42 headed southbound
- Continue along the M42 southbound, leaving at J6. Take the first exit onto the A45 headed eastbound.
Pick up the hollow square diversion symbol between J4 – J2
- Continue on the A45 eastbound to its junction with the A46 Tollbar End.
- Take the exit onto the A46 northbound and continue to re-join the M6 at J2.
