Jeremy Clarkson reveals problems at Diddly Squat farm left him on verge of ‘heartbreaking’ decision
TV star Jeremy Clarkson has said he was on the verge of selling his Diddly Squat farm.
He said it made just £114 in his first year but that would be a dream result when the figures come in for this year.
His struggles, documented in Amazon show Clarkson’s Farm, continued with failed harvests and a mushroom-growing flop.
The presenter, 63, wrote in The Sunday Times that he spent the week pondering its future.
He said he had tried conventional farming, diversification and different livestock — but none had been successful.
Clarkson, also a Sun columnist, added: “I arrived at a crossroads and was not sure which way to turn.
“I could sell the farm and earn far more from the interest than I do from growing bread and beer and vegetable oil.”
In part, he decided to plough on because the Oxfordshire farm, worth up to £13million, could be passed on tax-free to his kids.
And he wrote: “Then my land agent dropped in for a cup of tea and said he’d bought fertiliser for the next nine months and that Kaleb was out there drilling cover crops.
“So there we are.
“The farming circle has begun all over again.”
