I was pregnant when my monster ex said he’d ‘kick the baby out of me’ – then he broke my nose & threw a knife at me
WHEN Larna Morgan fell pregnant with her third child, what should have been a happy time turned into a nightmare.
Because at just two months pregnant her partner Dean Brown, 36, threatened to kick the baby out
Thug Brown, 36, from Chichester, West Sussex, also threw a knife next to her head and even fractured her nose while she was holding their then eight-week-old son.
Last month, Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of causing actual bodily harm, three counts of criminal damage and two counts of assault and was handed a 16-month sentence.
Larna, a health care worker, says: “No amount of time will make up for what Dean did to me, but I’ve shown that he can’t get away with it.
“If you’re in an abusive relationship, please speak up. There is help out there.”
Larna started dating Brown in December 2019, after meeting through a mutual friend.
At first, their relationship was happy, but two months later, in February 2020, Larna woke up to messages from Brown, accusing her of being a porn star.
Larna says: “I was so shocked and told him not to be ridiculous.
“I saw a completely different side to Dean that day.”
Brown apologised, but from then on, Larna had to tell him where she was and who she was with at all times.
The following year, in September 2021, Larna discovered she was pregnant.
Larna remembers: “Dean was fuming and asked me why I’d let it happen.
“He made me feel like it was my fault. He was really unsupportive.”
In November that year, during an argument, Brown threatened Larna, telling her ‘I’ll kick it out of you’, before throwing his phone at Larna’s TV and smashing it.
Terrified, Larna bravely ended things with Brown.
She says: “We messaged occasionally, and he asked how the baby was.
“After my 16-week scan, I told him we were having a boy, and he was over the moon.
“That day, he came round to my house with a bunch of flowers and an outfit for the baby.
“He told me he wasn’t going to treat me badly anymore.”
Larna and Brown rekindled their relationship and in May 2022, welcomed their son, Hudson, now one.
But Brown offered no support.
Two months later in July, the couple argued whilst Larna held eight-week-old Hudson.
Larna explains: “Out of nowhere, he punched me hard on my nose.
“There was blood everywhere.
“I put Hudson down in a safe place and ran to the toilet.
“Dean apologised and said it would never happen again.”
Larna went to bed with ice on her nose and the next day, called the doctor, who told her she had a fractured nose.
She says: “I had black eyes and a headache for days.
“When my family saw me and asked what had happened, I lied, telling them I’d hit myself with a sun lounger whilst taking it out of the shed.”
Larna kept Brown’s abuse to herself. She was desperate to leave but felt trapped.
In December that year, after she asked Brown to do the washing up, he smashed a glass bottle of cider in her face.
Larna remembers: “I had a huge lump on my forehead, bruising to my right arm and cider went all over my walls.”
Just days later, Brown hit Larna on her chest in front of his children when she asked if he could look after Hudson while she went to the shop.
Then, in January this year, on her daughter’s 12th birthday, Brown threw a knife at Larna during an argument.
It narrowly missed her head, landing in the wall, next to her.
Larna says: “I knew I couldn’t put up with his abuse anymore.
I want other survivors to know, they deserve more.”
Larna Morgan
“I went straight to my sister’s house with my children and told her everything.”
Larna’s sister rang the police and the next day, two officers visited her at home.
Brown was arrested and in April, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing actual bodily harm, three counts of criminal damage and two counts of assault.
Last month, he was sentenced to eight months in prison, with a further eight on licence, at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Larna says: “I went to the sentencing and read out my statement in front of him.
“I wanted my voice to be the last thing he heard before he was sent down.
“I was nervous, but I felt empowered to make a stand for my children and other women.
“No one should put up with abuse.
“I want other survivors to know, they deserve more.”
