Mum shaves teen girl’s facial hair to stop her getting bullied – but was she in the right?
YOU’D do anything to protect your child, right?
Well one mum has sparked controversy after shaving her teenage daughter’s facial hair.
Sharing a clip on social media, the mum, Vidya, said if you teen asks you to remove facial hair, you should do it.
In the clip, she used a shaver to remove her daughters unibrow and upper lip hair.
While her mum shaved her hair, her young daughter said: “Thank you so much, I don’t like it.”
“You don’t like it? I like the way it looks,” vidya replied.
“And waxing grows kind of fast on you, I feel like this will just be easier to do.”
Over the clip, she wrote: “To mums: If your teen/tween asks to remove facial hair… please do it.”
“I tried doing this myself secretly at her age since I wasn’t allowed to do this until HS and it didn’t end well,” she captioned the post.
The clip posted to the mum’s TikTok account @queencitytrends has since gone viral with over 18million views and over 1.8million likes.
People in the comments were left divided by the situation.
While many supported the mum, some were disappointed she even had to shave her facial hair to feel more confident.
One person wrote: “I’m so torn bc the fact that they’re still being made fun of for body hair is so sad! Like I hate that it didn’t change to where they’re comfortable.”
Another commented: “I’m hairy and teaching my son that facial/body hair on girls is normal! But I know not everyone does the same.”
“I was so self conscious about my leg hairs . My mom didn’t let me shave them young so I always hid my legs,” penned a third.
Meanwhile, others were more than supportive.
A fourth said: “As a girl who got bullied really badly because of my hair, this is so healing.”
“You’re just helping build her confidence. I don’t know why anyone would make their child keep hair where they don’t want it,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “I don’t understand why some people deny something so simple that makes all the difference for their kid.”
