I’m a cleaning pro – the worst advice I’ve heard, I’m guilty of giving it myself but I feel cringey thinking about it
A CLEANING pro has confessed to giving advice in the past that makes her cringe today.
It was advice she had once been given but would not be giving it out ever again.
But time and experience have shown Kendra Hennessy (@themotherlikeaboss) the light.
These days she insists downtime at home is permitted and we don’t have to be productive cleaning our surroundings all of the time.
This lady boasts 170,000 followers on her TikTok, where she dispenses super-useful cleaning tips.
In this post, she reflected on the bad advice she used to give.
“If you have time to lean, you have time to clean, is the worst cleaning advice for real life,” she said.
“What works in a restaurant isn’t meant for your day-to-day busy life.”
Kendra admitted to squirming when she recalled dishing out this cleaning tip.
“Sometimes we look back on our younger selves and the advice that we gave, ooh that’s cringy.”
She was able to rationalize her thought patterns.
“Hustle culture has been ingrained into me. The idea that not doing things was lazy and that doing things is productive. Productive is good, lazy is bad.
“You have time to watch Netflix and scroll through social media.
“And it’s so cringey thinking about that now because the two are not the same at all.”
We don’t need to be so hard on ourselves, she said.
“Scrolling through social media or watching Netflix is so easy because it doesn’t require anything of us. It doesn’t require us to make decisions.
“Those active activities like cleaning are so overwhelming because they require us to actually make a decision and get up and do it.
“So we avoid the overwhelming by doing something passive.”
Furthermore, she added: “You have time to lean and you have time to clean. It is not a choice between the two.
“You are allowed to rest without feeling like you need to be super ultra productive in order to then rest.”
Don’t feel ashamed she urged for saying “not today. Rest wins. Leaning over cleaning.”
Viewers were reassured by her post.
One said: “I need to hear this because this is exactly the way I feel. I always feel guilty if I’m not being productive and scrolling social media.”
Another agreed: “This is spot on. I always feel guilty when I’m not doing something productive and resting [instead].”
It was just what this busy lady needed to hear too.
“Mom of three in a small crowded house and I really needed to hear this. I always feel like I need to be doing something but I’m tired.”
