I liked a $349 piece of fall home decor but not the price – I DIYed my own version for $30, people say it’s ‘genius’
A DIY fan has transformed her hallway with some seasonal home décor saving herself several hundred dollars in the process.
She saw just what she wanted but the price ticket of $349 was a big turn-off.
So, putting her skills to good use, she created her own version for a fraction of the price at only $30.
Viewers to her post were so impressed that one was moved to describe her fall tree design as “genius.”
Morgan Winton. (@ourwintonhome), who boasts a following of 315,000 is no stranger to similar projects.
Her TikTok content is dedicated to: “DIY, home décor, farm and family.”
In this post, her design skills came into their own after experiencing some disappointment.
“I just wanted a faux tree but this was just out of my price range,” she said after seeing just what she wanted online – but the price ticket made it impossible to buy.
“$349. So I decided to make one,” she said with confidence.
First, she found the ideal centerpiece: “I found this dead tree laying in our woods. It was the perfect size.”
She explained her process in making her cut-price faux tree.
“I cut off the roots then stripped off the leaves and random sticks.
“Then I added some faux florals. The stems had floral wire in them so I just twisted them around each branch and they stayed secure.
“Then we put it in a pot and added concrete.”
Voila: “All done and it only cost $30.”
Viewers were impressed and inspired by her design.
“Looks awesome. Great idea,” said one person.
“This is a way better option than a store-bought one,” said a second.
A third person was full of compliments: “You ma’am is super talented. Love it.”
“Genius I want one,” was the response of a fourth.
