My 72-year-old mom has the best anti-aging tips – I was surprised that her strange ‘tea’ has studies to back it up
A 72-YEAR-OLD mom has revealed her best anti-aging tips.
Her daughter was surprised that there were studies to back up her mom’s strange “tea.”
TikToker Dr. Mamina Turegano, MD (@dr.mamina) shared a new “strange anti-aging” tip from her Japanese mother on social media.
Dr. Mamina’s mom, Michiko, claimed that drinking tea from dried onion skins had rejuvenating effects.
The dermatologist said she was skeptical at first.
But she went on PubMed — a database for medical literature — and she found that “there were over 100 studies listed.”
Many of them showed that numerous advantages were stored in onion skin, and, of course, it had anti-aging effects.
“Before trying this, I looked up onion peel on PubMed to see what studies have been done with it,” she said.
“Much to my surprise, there were over 100 studies listed, many of which showed multiple health benefits,” Dr. Mamina revealed.
Onion skin contains quercetin, a flavonoid that’s a type of anti-oxidant, per the National Library of Medicine.
Quercetin was touted as an anti-inflammatory, immune booster, and allergy fighter, Dr. Mamina added in her video.
It can also be used to control blood sugar, fight heart disease, and lower blood pressure, per WebMD.
It’s pretty simple to make onion tea.
“First wash the skin thoroughly. Then place a handful of skin in a small pot of water,” Dr. Mamina explained.
“Bring it to a boil and then let the onion skin simmer in the water for about 15 to 30 minutes and enjoy,” she revealed.
“It tastes like really bland onion water,” the dermatologist added. “But there’s something really comforting about it, too.”
