I’m an interior designer – 3 finishes I absolutely hate, a popular kitchen element isn’t worth the price
AN interior designer has revealed three finishes she absolutely hates.
Among them was a very popular kitchen element, which she said just wasn’t worth the price.
Her short list, however, has stirred up debate.
While there was agreement in the comments to her post, there were those who took issue with her selection.
House of D3 Interior Design, (@houseofd3) who can boast a following of 170,000, was unmoved and stuck to her guns.
“Three finishes I absolutely hate as an interior designer,” she began her post.
First up LVP flooring: “It has grown in popularity over the last decade because of its 100 percent waterproof nature as well as the durability for pets.”
Despite this, she saw some downsides: “It’s extremely hard to install and get a really good solid base with.
“The click-and-lock nature as well as the plastic blend just means that they are more prone to clicking.”
Next up was a popular kitchen countertop material: quartz. She was no fan.
“You’ll see a lot of beautiful kitchens with quartz countertops, to me the price point isn’t worth the material.
“It is durable but it is not 100 percent destruction proof.”
Try something else instead, she suggested.
“There are so many beautiful stones out there for the same price point that offer you more durability.”
Last on her list was linear drains, but she considered them more style than purpose.
“While they look completely contemporary and sleek, from a function standpoint, they are extremely hard.
“You see under that pretty drain plate is the same old circular drain, which means a lot of times water and what not will get backed up going into the drain.”
Some viewers backed her list.
“Agree with all of this. Thanks for explaining,” said one person.
As did a second: “Yes, quartz is overrated. We used it on our last house and it was not worth it.”
But there were many others who challenged her selection with their own success stories.
“Love my LVP floors and quartz countertops. Both are indestructible,” was the reaction of this person.
For this viewer, theirs had proved to be worthwhile.
“I love my quartz countertop. No maintenance and has stood the test of time and four kids. They still look great.”
