I’m a dermatologist – the best ingredient to combat hair loss and make your locks grow, it’s better than rosemary oil
A DERMATOLOGIST has shared her holy grail product for promoting hair growth.
The skincare expert said her advice may work even better than rosemary oil.
Dr. Heather Kornmehl (@dr.heatherderm) filmed herself revealing the key product in a video on TikTok.
“Androgenetic alopecia, also known as ‘male/female pattern hair loss’ is the most common form of hair loss,” she said.
“The best and most studied drugstore treatment is five percent Minoxidil massaged into scalp twice a day.
“Rosemary oil, also when massaged into scalp twice a day was equivalent to two percent minoxidil in one study that hasn’t yet been replicated,” she added.
She also recommended a specific shampoo to aid in treating alopecia.
“There is also data showing consistent use of anti-dandruff shampoos like Nizoral may also help androgenetic alopecia,” she said.
She added that it is possible that pumpkin seed oil could also help those with alopecia who can’t use Minoxidil.
“There were two small and limited studies showing pumpkin seed oil may also help androgenetic alopecia.
“It was theorized that the pumpkin seed oil might affect the primary hormone responsible, dihydrotestosterone,” she said.
Dr. Kornmehl added that research for alopecia treatments is much needed to find more treatments.
“We absolutely need more research and therapeutics developed for male/female pattern hair loss,” she said.
The dermatologist also advised that results won’t occur overnight with rosemary oil, pumpkin seed oil, Nizoral, or Minoxidil.
“It can take six months to see improvement with these treatments,” she said.
The video prompted many questions from viewers with one asking: “Does Minoxidil make your hair fall out first? I’m scared to start.”
“It can cause some shedding in the beginning, but nothing serious,” Dr. Kornmehl replied.
