Craig Ross charged with kidnapping over Charlotte Sena abduction after ‘fingerprints on ransom note snared him’
THE suspect arrested in connection with the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl has been charged with kidnapping.
Craig N Ross is being held at the Saratoga County jail in New York.
Ross was arrested after troopers stormed his camper – two days after Charlotte Sena disappeared.
He was arraigned on first-degree kidnapping charges and held without bail, per The Times Union.
Sena had been riding her bike at the Moreau Lake State Park when she disappeared on Saturday.
The girl’s disappearance sparked a frantic search probe, leading to over 400 people becoming involved including state and local cops, forest rangers, and volunteers.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert as they ramped up the search for the then-missing child.
Ross was snared after a fingerprint that was found on a ransom note.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul revealed a timeline that led up to Ross’ arrest.
She said a man pulled up to a mailbox in front of Sena’s family home that was being guarded by cops.
Hochul said: “He drove up to the family’s mailbox assuming they were not at home. [He] opens the mailbox, enters the ransom note, leaving a critical piece of information behind – the ransom note.”
Fingerprints were discovered on the note and cops were able to match these to a DWI arrest that stemmed back to 1999.
This revelation led authorities to an address where Ross Jr. was living.
Sena was found in a cabinet and Hochul revealed the child knew she was being rescued.
Sena disappeared on Saturday while bike riding in a wooded area – around 35 miles from Albany.
The fourth-grader had been cycling with other kids but she decided to do an extra loop.
Cops issued the Amber Alert on Sunday and said that it was possible an abduction had taken place.
The park where Sena disappeared was temporarily closed and flight restrictions were put into force for safety reasons.
