Never one to happily play second-fiddle, Virat Kohli is second-favourite for the award. Kohli will undoubtedly play a crucial part for India, and few can better deliver in the most pressurising situations. He’s in good form having scored 612 runs in 13 innings in 2023, and boasts a higher average on home soil.
Thought must also be given to the ICC’s number one ranked batsman in ODI, Babar Azam. The modern-day Pakistani giant is the second-highest ODI run-maker in the world since the conclusion of the previous 2019 World Cup in England.
