0

These days we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to TV shows, which is why it can make deciding what to watch that much harder.

With so much available on Sky – from edge-of-your-seat dramas to informative documentaries – we’ve done the hard work for you and picked the best shows to watch.

Check out the top 20 shows available to watch on Sky & NOW.

DRAMA

Succession

This show is one of the BEST TV series ever
Home Box Office

Four seasons

We couldn’t not include Succession – a show that needs no introduction. Succession is undoubtedly one of THE best TV series ever. With an average audience score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who has watched the series and hasn’t loved it.

With compelling themes, captivating narrative and complex characters, Succession is a gripping series that follows the toxic blend of power and family dynamics. The show centres on the Roy family and their fight for control of global media and entertainment conglomerate, Waystar RoyCo.

True Detective

Three seasons

Another TV series worth watching
sky TV

True Detective is the crime anthology series which welcomes a new detective (or two) each season and sees them tasked with investigating a police case.

It’s worth watching all three seasons but if you’ve only got the attention span for one, make it the first. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, season one is exceptional – from the acting to the storyline, it’s one everyone has to watch at least once.

The White Lotus

Two seasons

The social satire is set at an exclusive Sicilian resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week
HBO

The White Lotus is a sharp social satire following the exploits of various employees and guests at an exclusive resort over the span of one highly transformative week. As each episode unfolds you get to see the complex truth behind the seemingly picture-perfect guests and cheerful staff.

Set against a luxury backdrop – a Hawaiian resort in Season 1 and Sicily in Season 2 – White Lotus is must-watch viewing, even if it’s just to see Jennifer Coolidge in her iconic role as Tanya. With a third season confirmed, now’s the time to play catch up otherwise you’ll find yourself left out of the water cooler chat when S3 comes around.

The Wire

Five seasons

The Wire full of action and thrill

Despite being released more than two decades ago, The Wire has stood the test of time when it comes to exceptional TV series. Set in the city of Baltimore, this highly realistic and totally unvarnished drama chronicles the vagaries of crime, law enforcement, politics, education and media in Baltimore as it follows a team of cops and the criminals they are after.

In contrast to conventional US cop dramas, The Wire focuses on how corruption and injustice are failing the American population. Starring Dominic West and Idris Elba, the series is just as good a watch now as it was twenty years ago.

The Lovers

One series

We can’t say no to a mushy rom-com can we?
pa

For all you rom-com fans, this series might just be the one for you. Set in Belfast, The Lovers follows Janet a foul-mouthed, hilarious, Belfast supermarket worker who couldn’t give a shit about anything much at all, including her life, and Seamus a handsome, self-centred, political broadcaster with what looks to be a perfect London life and a celebrity girlfriend.

This is a sexy, funny, fight-y love story about two people who appear to be utterly wrong for each other – yet may just be utterly right.

The Sopranos

The Sopranos needs no introduction. Considered the pinnacle of TV drama by many, it blends dark humour, family drama and gangster cliches to give us a masterpiece. This all-time classic drama stars James Gandolfini as ruthless mobster and troubled family man Tony Soprano, as he tries to balance his role as leader of a criminal organisation and family life.
