Big Brother’s strict rules for new housemates revealed with Love Island-style blackout and months of post-show support
BIG Brother has revealed its strict rules for its brand new batch of housemates – including a Love Island-style social media blackout.
The iconic reality show returns this Sunday to ITV2 after being off air for nearly five years.
With aerial pictures showing the brand new house nearing completion, this year’s contestants have now gone into hiding.
But before the housemates move into the TV abode, bosses have revealed a strict health and safety package.
Registered mental health professionals will be on hand throughout the series and all contestants have undergone a psychological assessment.
A social media blackout has been imposed, with housemates’ friends and family blocked from posting on their social media accounts.
The hopefuls have also received respect and inclusion training and an extensive briefing from the Big Brother Senior team.
When they leave the house housemates will receive bespoke training in how to deal with social media and press.
They’ll also immediately have a mandatory check up session with a mental health professional.
Even after the series ends housemates will continue to receive support from Big Brother’s Head of Welfare for a period of 14 months after the series has ended.
The measures are similar to the ones currently being used by Love Island, which also airs on ITV2.
A spokesperson for Big Brother said: “The welfare protocols in place for Big Brother Housemates have evolved over the show’s more than 20-year global history.
“The protocols in place for the 2023 ITV series have been evaluated and reviewed with ITV’s compliance and Duty of Care team, the mental health professionals engaged for this series and Big Brother’s welfare team, including Banijay UK’s Head of Welfare.”
Big Brother launches this Sunday at 9pm on ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX with AJ Odudu and Will Best on presenting duties.
It was previously revealed how the launch show would be pre-recorded on Saturday in a huge shake-up.
