Emmerdale fans ‘refuse to watch’ as they rip into ‘sexist and cringe’ Mack car rescue scene
EMMERDALE fans are ‘refusing to watch’ the show’s Super Soap Week after they ripped into a ‘sexist’ Mackenzie Boyd car rescue scene.
The ITV soap is gearing up for a big stunt next week, when Mackenzie, estranged wife Charity Dingle and current love and baby mama Chloe Harris end up in a car accident.
Mackenzie and Chloe are preparing to leave for a holiday break in Scotland – with the hope of moving there permanently soon.
But unbeknown to Mack, Chloe’s sick with betrayal after having heard an unexpected conversation between him and Charity.
Despite reassurances from Mack that he loves her, Chloe later misinterprets a hug between Charity and Mack as they both accept their relationship really is over.
Mack and Chloe head off on their journey, but soon spot Charity by the side of the road after her car broke down, and Chloe offers her a lift.
But as the women bicker, they soon end up in a dire situation as a car smashes into them and their vehicle ends up dangling over the edge of a cliff.
As Mackenzie breaks free, he is left to choose which of the women he should save first before it plummets to the ground below.
A publicity still from the scenes was released this week, and sees Chloe and Charity both reaching out desperately for Mack’s hand.
He is left facing the horrendous decision of who to save, but for some Emmerdale fans, they won’t be tuning in to find out who he picks.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one raged at the picture: “I can’t believe #emmerdale thinks this is a good promotion shot for the show. It’s appalling, misogynistic and very disturbing.”
Another added: “Everything about this shot is a monument of misogyny, male chauvinism and a whole new level of cringe kabuki theatre right side of the frame.”
A fellow fan replied: “Totally agree. I seriously can’t with this show anymore.”
Meanwhile a fourth tweeted: “I haven’t watched since end of August. Until we get better/new stories, and stop seeing these same characters… I refuse.”
They weren’t alone in their anger, as another soap fan wrote: “Are you kidding me? What a disgusting misogynistic shot. There is no bottom to this awful show.”
Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX, with the big Soap Super Week airing next week.
