Nineties band unrecognisable as they slam ex frontman and reveal alcohol a drugs battle – saying they’ll NEVER reunite
NINETIES rockers Silverchair have opened up about the band’s feud – saying they will never reunite as they slam ex frontman.
The Australian grunge band was formed in 1992 with Daniel Johns, 44, on vocals and guitars, drummer Ben Gillies, 43, and bass guitarist Chris Joannou, 43.
But the trio called it a day and split in 2011, leaving fans heartbroken.
It has now been revealed that there were tensions behind-the-scenes which lead to the breakdown of the band.
Ben and Chris appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday and opened up about bandmate Daniel’s alcohol and drug battle which caused the band to have “rocky” and “unstable” times.
Ben said: “I think it had a lot to do with bad communication between three men who did not know how to communicate very well.
“And substances, drinking had a lot to do with it… it was all very messy.”
Earlier in the interview, Ben spoke about his own problems with alcohol abuse, admitting it nearly wrecked his marriage and turned him into an “a***hole”.
Host Kyle Sandilands was then keen to know whether they could put their differences aside and reunite.
But any hopes were quickly dashed, as Chris replied: “Everyone’s moving forward on a different path.
“I think we all on pretty different trajectories and just need to appreciate that.”
The trio have had a love and hate relationship over the past decade.
In 2022, lead singer Daniel slammed his bandmates for being “jealous and bitter” of his success and said Ben had a “real problem” with fame.
But the ex-pals ignored his comments and did not respond at the time.
The group got their big break in 1994 and was signed by Murmur.
They enjoyed success in Australia and internationally, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.
They have won more ARIA Music Awards than any other artist in history, earning 21 wins from 49 nominations.
