Inside the forgotten Big Brother series that stopped filming halfway through and was never aired after teen sex scandal
A BIG Brother series that was forced to stop filming halfway through never made it to air.
The original reality show, which has found a new home on ITV after five years off air, has a ‘forgotten’ series.
Big Brother first launched all the way back in 2000 on Channel 4 with Davina McCall as its presenter.
Its debut on British television saw it immediately become a smash-hit, with bosses even commissioning a teen version.
It launched shortly after the fourth series of regular Big Brother and featured a group of adolescents.
The special edition ran for just five episodes with the late Paul Brennan voted the winner at just 18.
However, Paul, who tragically passed away aged 37, previously revealed a second series had been in production.
The reality star said bosses were forced to abandon the show midway for an unknown reason.
Speaking to the Please Do Not Swear podcast, he explained: “The one and only that is my title because I know they had done a second one as well that got cancelled halfway through.
“There was other 18-year-old contestants in the house.”
Paul continued: “Obviously we were the first batch and they were like ‘oh this is a goldmine here’.”
“They had started another one, it must’ve been something to do with contestants or it just wasn’t working and it just…”
Teen Big Brother’s first series made television history by featuring the first sexual act on air between two housemates.
It was meant with controversy at the time with some viewers slamming Channel 4 for ‘exploiting’ teenagers.
While teen Big Brother was short-lived, the regular series continued on C4 until it was axed in 2010.
It was later saved by Channel 5 the following year and presented by former winner Brian Dowling before Emma Willis took over.
Big Brother meant a similar fate when it was dropped from schedules in 2018 due to plummeting ratings.
