I was a famous Top of the Pops presenter but I gave up my telly career for very different normal job
A TOP of the Pops presenter swapped his career on screen for a very different job.
Tony Dortie was a regular face on screens when he hosted the hugely popular music chart programme.
The now 60-year-old joined the show in 1991 and presented alongside Mark Franklin.
He fronted Top of the Pops for three years before being axed in 1994.
After leaving the show Tony had a number of everyday jobs, such as a refuse collector and a traffic warden.
But nowadays he has a completely different career, launching his very own entertainment.
Called Triple T Entertainment, the presenter created ITV2 show Million Dollar Babes.
During his time so far at the company Tony has worked with huge names and brands.
He’s managed marketing strategies for Lindsay Lohan, Girls Aloud and even soft drink Pepsi.
The Sun previously revealed how Victoria Beckham had banned direct eye contact during her appearance on Top of the Pops.
She performed Out Of Your Mind with Dane Bowers live on the show and it was the defining song of her short-lived solo music career.
Former host Gail Porter has claimed their team warned against people staring at them when they visited the studios in 2000.
She said: “Victoria and Dane’s people had banned anyone from making eye contact with them while they were there, so it was super awkward.
“And lovely Travis, I was looking at them and they were making w***er signals.
“So anyway, I am standing going, ‘It’s Gail Porter, it’s still No1, it’s still Top Of The Pops’, and because the cameras can’t see them, please welcome to the stage Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowers, Out Of Your Mind.”
