Woman stuns passengers after wearing a full hazmat suit to travel on the Eurostar in bid to beat bedbugs
A WOMAN has left her fellow Eurostar passengers stunned when she revealed the extreme measures she was taking in a bid to beat bedbugs.
The new breed of so-called “super-bedbugs” spread across Paris in an epidemic that now appears to have hit the UK.
The blood-sucking critters have been spotted on a train in London and a bus in Manchester.
One place people seem particularly concerned they might get the bugs is on the Eurostar – which travels between London and Paris, as well as other European destinations.
Eurostar bosses have done their best to reassure passengers by saying that they’re disinfecting trains from Paris if there is even the “slightest doubt” they are infested with pests.
They told passengers to expect “preventative treatments” that ensure bedbug free journeys including cleaning with hot water and extra cleaning if it’s requested.
But one woman decided that just wasn’t good enough, and decided to take things into her own hands for her journey.
Taking to TikTok, MV shared a video of herself wearing a white hazmat style suit, which covered her from head to toe.
“Eurostar bedbugs are not gonna get me,” she wrote over the top, showing off her outfit in the aisle before sitting in her seat.
However, there is a downside to her protective clothing too – namely the noise of it rustling.
“The noise tho!” she added in her video caption.
“The rustling is so satisfying to me,” one person commented on the clip.
“It’s a constant reminder you’re winning against the bugs!”
As others praised MV for her outfit choice.
“This should be the norm tbh,” one wrote.
“You’re smart! I would be doing this,” another added.
While lots of people said it reminded them of Naomi Campbell‘s hazmat suit that she wore on a flight during the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, not everyone was impressed with MV’s suit decision, with many insisting she – and lots of others – are overreacting.
“Guys pls,” one wrote.
“Omg I was in Paris for a whole week this month and I saw 0 bed bugs, just look around to see if it’s safe to sit!”
“General complete overreaction,” a second huffed.
As someone else added: “This is a lot”.
According to the NHS, the bugs can be dark yellow, red or brown.
The critters are oval shaped and are around the size of an apple seed, they also have six legs and two antenna.
They cannot fly, but often live on furniture or bedding, and can be spread by being on clothes or luggage.
They cannot live on your body.
You can identify adult bedbugs by their size as they are around 5mm long and there will be spots from their waste like little ink splats.
Bedbugs can look somewhat different depending on
their feeding status
After they have fed, bedbugs bodies will swell and turn a reddish colour from their latest meal.
