Police confirm woman still missing hours after man rescued from River Kelvin in Glasgow
A DESPERATE search is continuing for a woman who vanished from a river in Glasgow.
Emergency crews were scrambled to Eldon Street by the River Kelvin at around 5:45pm yesterday following reports of two people in the water.
A man was rushed to hospital after being helped by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Cops say searches are continuing for a 59-year-old woman.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45pm on Wednesday, 11 October, 2023, we received a report of concern for two people in the water at the River Kelvin, near to Eldon Street, Glasgow.
“A man was rescued by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
“Searches are ongoing for a 59-year-old woman who remains missing.”
Around four fire engines, several ambulances and police cars were seen on the road by the bridge beside Eusebi Deli last night.
A helicopter was also circling the area as the search got underway.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at around 5.42pm on Wednesday, October 11, to an incident at the River Kelvin near to Eldon Street, Glasgow.
“Operations Control mobilised specialist resources to the area and crews are currently still at the scene assisting emergency service partners.”
