I work at the Edinburgh Dungeons – here’s my top tips for the ultimate Halloween makeover
ARE you tired of trying to get the perfect Halloween look every year but not quite managing to get it right?
Fear not, a make-up expert has shared her top five tips that will help make sure you nail your creepy character.
Katie Buchanan, Lead Actor at the Edinburgh Dungeons, has whipped up her top five steps to get your make-up looking spook-tacular.
To begin with, Katie explains that you need to make your face look as pale as possible to give you a good base layer.
She said: “The first thing I do when applying my makeup at The Dungeons is to make myself look as pale as possible.
“Use a white foundation to make it look like you’ve not seen the sun in years!”
Once you’ve got your base, the next thing to do is use some eye shadow to give your face a hollow look.
Katie explains: “For step two, grab a brown eye shadow or contour and hollow out your eye sockets, temples, cheekbones and jawline.
“You want to make yourself seem as gaunt, eerie and tiresome as possible.
Now you’ve got to add some colour from either face paint, more eye shadow or even some lipstick.
Katie suggested using some red and purple colouring to create little circles on your face for the base to create buboes.
Then you can smudge the circles out with your fingers to create the best illusion.
Once you’ve got that down you can add some eyelash glue on the top to create small bumps.
Leave it to dry and you’ve given yourself the perfect hideous look, Katie explains.
She added: “Finally, use eyeshadow or contour in the creases of your eyelids, smile lines and chin”.
This October the Edinburgh Dungeon is taking things to the next level with its series of spooky shows.
Running now until Halloween, the limited-time show transports guests back 100 years to October 1923, when the last prisoner was hung in Edinburgh’s notorious Carlton Jail.
Visitors will immerse themselves in some of the most horrifying history as they delve into the dark and dreary past of the imposing fortress, with some of the worst conditions ever encountered in prisons.
