A LATE-NIGHT crawler said he finally found a remedy for his sleeplessness.
The best part is it’s completely natural.
TikToker and world traveler Elliott (@callmebelly) expressed how hard it is for him to fall asleep at a reasonable hour.
“I usually go to bed at 3-4 am,” he wrote in the caption of a video.
To try and remedy that problem, he turned to a viral hack that he had seen on TikTok: romaine lettuce tea.
“Supposedly if you boil romaine lettuce and you drink the liquid, it will make you sleepy.”
As for how it works, Elliott had a vague idea.
“The hot water is going to cause the lettuce to release something,” he said with a clueless look on his face.
Though he didn’t know the proper term, experts at Health.com explained that lettuce contains something called lactucarium, which can make you feel sleepy.
And if you boil down a handful of lettuce heads, you will be left with that chemical.
Elliott gave it a shot, throwing a bunch of romaine into a glass mason jar and pouring boiling water over it.
“Now, we let it sit for a couple of minutes.”
He then removed the pieces of lettuce and filmed the murky water that remained.
“There are definitely a few critters in here,” he quipped, while drinking the water slightly disgusted by the flavor.
“It tastes exactly like what you would think it tastes like: lettuce water.”
Only 20 minutes later, he was forced to retire to his bed because he could barely stay awake.
“My eyes feel so heavy.”
In the morning, he recapped how the night went: “Yes that worked.
“This is insane.”
Viewers were shook by the discovery.
“Wait, I’ve seen this everywhere and I trust you. I’m convinced and now I want to try it,” one person wrote, to which Elliot said it was “so crazy.”
“I searched it on Google and yes, it’s true. Mind-blowing,” added another.
