Stansted Airport: Huge emergency response as Kenya Airways flight to Heathrow is diverted and escorted by cops on runway
A HUGE emergency response has rushed to Stansted Airport after a Kenya Airways flight was diverted.
The passenger plane headed to the UK from Nairobi had to be escorted by cops on the runway just before 3.45pm on Thursday.
The aircraft, Boeing 787, was due to land at London Heathrow before it was intercepted – forcing it to land at another one of the capital’s major airports.
Pictures from passengers on board appear to show armed masked officers wearing helmets.
Essex Police were called to the runway where they helped bring the flight to a remote stand.
The force said: “We are currently attending an incident at Stansted Airport.
“A flight travelling from Nairobi to Heathrow was diverted to Stansted this afternoon (Thursday 12 October).
“The airport remains open.”
