I live in an off-grid yurt in the desert – it’s gorgeous but there’s a trick to using the toilet
A YURT dweller has shared a glimpse into her unique living situation, including the trick to flushing her toilet.
The TikToker gave her followers a tour around the interior of her desert home.
In her video, Whitney (@whitney.wildflower) showed viewers some of the unusual features of her off-the-grid space.
The yurt included a loft bed space with a rustic wooden staircase covered in ivy.
After descending the stairs, Whitney demonstrated how to use the eco-friendly stovetop in her kitchen.
She also showed her audience the solar panels that supplied the power to the yurt.
Whitney, who shares the space with her partner and three dogs, revealed: “We built everything ourselves.”
She explained that they had “no previous experience” in the area when they embarked on their adventure.
Showing off the wood-burning stove, Whitney added that they built their home on a budget.
However, the eco-friendly lifestyle came with some adjustments from everyday living.
Whitney demonstrated the unique method of flushing the yurt’s toilet.
Lifting the toilet lid, she used her other hand to twist and pull a lever repeatedly.
After pumping several times, Whitney managed to get the toilet to flush.
Despite the small changes the couple had to make to live a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle, they would never go back to their lives before.
Whitney explained: “It’s taken us three years to get to this point and we still have more to do.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished so far.”
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on Whitney’s lifestyle.
“Huge fan of what you are doing!” wrote one impressed follower.
Another viewer said: “Not my style but much respect for all the hard work to follow your dreams, congratulations.”
