Top Gear star Freddie Flintoff making epic TV comeback after horror crash that saw BBC show axed
FREDDIE Flintoff will make his TV return in 2024 after putting his presenting work on hold following his horror Top Gear smash.
The England cricket legend, 45, has decided to make a comeback after his family begged him to take time out to recover from last December’s accident.
Freddie, who suffered nasty facial injuries, will make a second series of Field of Dreams, the BBC1 documentary in which he introduced kids in his home city of Preston to the joys of cricket.
The father-of-four petrolhead could revive the stalled Chasing Cars for BBC2, a renovations show described as “The Repair Shop meets Top Gear”.
He is also in discussions with producers about other projects.
Freddie, quizzed on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in 2014, may choose to be interviewed on the physical and psychological struggles he has faced dealing with his injuries.
A TV insider said: “Freddie is a hugely popular TV star and any channel or streamer would be thrilled to sign up one of his shows.
“His return to the limelight is something both telly execs and the public have been longing for and thankfully he now seems ready to return to doing what he loves
“He just needs to get past the one year anniversary of the crash, then he can focus on the next chapter of his career.
He’s already in talks about what he wants to work on in 2024 and beyond.”
Freddie is back working with production company South Shore.
As well as Field of Dreams, their collaborations include ITV reality show Don’t Rock the Boat, documentary Two Men in a Tent and BBC1 documentary Freddie Flintoff: Living with Bulimia.
The Sun last week revealed Top Gear will not be returning after Freddie’s accident.
He was airlifted to hospital after a three-wheeler Morgan Super 3 he was driving without a helmet flipped over at just 22mph at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.
Top Gear, which he hosted with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, filmed its stunts and test drives there.
We revealed in January that Freddie was putting his career on hold and he was rarely seen until he appeared last month to help England cricket team’s coaches.
A spokesman for Freddie declined to comment.
