Major car brand launches new electric car under massive £9m boost
ASTON Martin has secured a mammoth £9 million in government funding to help launch its first electric car.
The luxe car manufacturer was handed the funding by the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) which aims to develop UK-based net-zero emission technologies.
An SUV is expected to be Aston Martin’s first electric vehicle from late 2025 and will eventually be followed by a grand tourer.
The funds will also provide resources for the development of Aston Martin’s modular battery electric vehicle (BEV).
Aston Martin’s chief technology officer Roberto Fedeli said the money will change how the brand can approach electric expansion.
“The award of funding from the APC is another major boost to our electrification strategy and constant strive for innovation,” he said.
“Providing further resources to explore the possibilities of our bespoke BEV platform it will help achieve our ambition to be an in-house BEV technology leader in the ultra-luxury, high-performance segment,” he said.
APC Chief Executive Ian Constance said similar projects will help the “UK to deliver on its net zero ambition”.
“We’ve seen over £1.4 billion of investment into automotive projects since the APC was set up, and I am proud of the impact that we have made here in the UK.
“This latest announcement includes a diverse set of OEMs and suppliers that demonstrate the strength of UK automotive.”
It comes after Aston Martin recently entered a long-term partnership with Lucid Automakers on the development of high-performance all-electric powertrains.
Despite the hype, not all electric vehicle drivers are happy with their end product.
This week, one car enthusiast found a major flaw in the latest Tesla Model 3 Highland – and it has nothing to do with charging.
Another Telsa driver doubled-down, saying he can’t even afford to insure the vehicle type.
