I’m a cleaning fan & my cheap and easy hack will remove any damp smell instantly – it only cost 65p
IT’S officially the season where we can expect it to rain in the UK.
This means most people will be wrapped up and potentially walking through puddles or wet grass while watching the kids play footie.
Now the cooler temperatures are here, it may feel like it takes even longer to dry off – which can sometimes cause a damp smell coming from your shoes.
And the last thing anyone wants is their clean home, smelling of damp.
But fear not, one cleaning whizz knows just the trick to help banish that nasty smell.
Kaye Marie took to her TikTok page to share the super savvy hack.
She answered a question from one of her followers, which read: “How do you use it on his football boots?
“My boyfriends stink the house out and can’t seem to get them smelling clean.”
Kaye then demonstrated exactly how it’s done with her son’s Rugby boots.
She says: “A little hack to keep your football boots smelling fresh.
“You can also do this on any other footwear.
“There is nothing worse than damp, wet smelling shoes or anything damp to be quite honest, it’s awful.”
She recommends buying bicarbonate of soda which can cost 65p from Tesco.
“All you need to do is get your shoes, and some bicarb. I am telling you bicarb is life. Bicarb is a natural deodoriser.
“It doesn’t smell of anything, but it lifts smells out of practically anything; soft furning, rugs, carpets, anything you name it.
“If you’ve ever dropped milk for instance in your car or had a bust carton of milk, this is going to drag all the smell of milk out.
“Trust me.
“So all you need to do when they come in, is lay it in.
“Shake it about so it gets everywhere, all along the sole. Wherever you can get it.
“And you are literally going to leave these to marinate overnight.
“Once they have done the work overnight, and all of the smell has been lifted – I just literally get the hoover and hoover them out.
“It’s the best hack ever and it literally lifts any smell.”
The video has attracted thousands of views, with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts – and many were suggesting some of their own hacks too.
One wrote: “Dryer sheets work an absolute charm.”
Kaye replied: “But does it lift the smell! Or is it just a mask until you’ve taken them out?”
Another added: “Tea bags are also a good hack.”
Others loved Kaye’s idea, and wrote: “Will definitely try this. All of my boys footie boots stink so bad!”
A second said: “Well known through the ages, does a good job on anything.”
