I used to work at McDonald’s…the 3 items I hated having to make, and the drink demands that would ruin my shift
MCDONALD’S has more than 1,270 restaurants in the UK and thousands of staff working at them and making the chain’s iconic menu items.
Some former employees have lifted the lid on what it’s like to work at the popular fast-food chain and shared the items on the menu they despised making including certain hot drinks, and popular burgers.
Taking to Reddit’s McLounge forum, someone kicked off the conversation by asking: “Other workers of McD’s, what’s your least favorite item to make?”
Someone mentioned hot drinks, in particular lattes. They explained they were not someone who worked in the kitchen, but front of house and on the drive-thru instead.
The comment read: “I don’t do kitchen but four Large Lattes make my day a lot worse.
“I had a woman come through and order thirteen large lattes the other day.
“I could have strangled her,” the employee remarked jokingly.
“‘Are you sure?’ I asked and she replied: “’Yeah.’ I clarified: ‘One-three. Thirteen? You want thirteen lattes at 10am on a Saturday?’ She said: ‘Yes.’”
A Reddit user who doesn’t work at McDonald’s asked the employee why lattes are so “annoying to make”.
They explained: “Well at my Mcdonald’s we have three machines for hot drinks, two for in-store orders and one for drive thru.
“They can only make one drink at a time at each one takes about 20-30 seconds, it doesn’t sound that bad but it’s excruciating when you experience it.”
Another employee shared the same pain: “When they order a Mcafe drink like a latte especially multiple because it only makes one drink at a time.”
There are approximately 17 Big Macs sold each second in the UK, but for some McDonald’s employees, they are a nightmare to make.
Someone shared: “I hate making Big Macs and the spicy crispy chicken because the sauce gets all over my gloves.
“The Big Mac is difficult to complete without losing some lettuce, and the spicy crispy sauce is so thin it just drips everywhere.”
Another ex-employee also hated making Big Macs when they were stationed in the kitchen because “they are so popular” and you had to make hundreds.
Every day at McDonald’s there is a different ‘wrap of the day’.
Remembering what day and flavour it was, was hard enough, but apparently, assembling the wraps “takes forever”.
An ex-employee revealed: “I no longer work for McDonald’s but I HATED the chicken Mcwraps, I always broke the tortillas and messed up the ingredients inside and had to start all over again.”
Another one agreed: “Wraps! Omg they slow everything down,” and a third chimed: “Wraps slow everything down on a busy day.”
