Strictly’s Zara McDermott BANS boyfriend Sam Thompson from studio – as he reveals ‘real reason’ he’s forced to stay home
STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Zara McDermott has banned her boyfriend, Sam Thompson from coming to watch her in the live shows – and now he has revealed the “real reason” he has to stay at home.
During his girlfriend’s first live show, the former Made in Chelsea star was there to support her.
Shortly after, Zara told Sam to watch the BBC show from home instead of the studio – but it’s for a good reason.
Sam explained why on Hits Radio, saying: “If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen me in the Strictly audience I’ve been told to stay at home.”
He continued: “Zara and I have agreed that I can do more damage from the sofa – by which I mean garner more votes!”
As Strictly Come Dancing audience members can’t bring their phones into the studio, the star explained that by staying at home he can encourage more fans to vote for Zara.
He added: “I can go on Instagram and be like ‘Vote for Zara!’ because the actual studio audience aren’t allowed to bring their phones into the studio.
“You can’t do anything in the studio with your phone, so we thought we’d go for a multi-pronged attack with me on the sofa at home.”
The 31-year-old also cheekily added that it’s “not the worst thing in the world” because Strictly Come Dancing is “quite a long show” – three hours.
“I’m going to be honest it’s not the worst thing in the world because it’s quite a long show – it’s a good three hours!,” Sam shared.
The proud boyfriend said that this weekend he will “go to town” on his Instagram stories to ensure his girlfriend will survive another week.
Sam added: “I took Pete [Wicks] my best mate to the first show and after three dances he turned round and went ‘It’s a long one this isn’t’ it?’ So, I’m going to town on stories this weekend and I’m going to make sure my girlfriend sails through to another week.”
During her first week on Strictly, Sam appeared alongside TV pal Pete Wicks to cheer on his girlfriend.
At the time, they made sure they stood out by wearing custom-made shirts with her face printed on them.
It comes after a former Strictly Come Dancing pro claimed that Zara needed a “miracle” to cling on this week.
Brendan Cole, 47, expressed that the 26-year old would not last much longer on the show.
Zara rose to fame after she joined the fourth series of Love Island. She coupled up with Adam Collard before being dumped from the villa 10 days later.
She slid into the DMs of Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson in early 2019, shortly after she left the show.
The pair hit it off and got into a romantic relationship, but eventually decided to part ways in September 2020 when it came to light that Zara had been unfaithful.
Sam forgave Zara, and the pair decided to move on and work through their difficulties, eventually remaining together to this day.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturdays and Sundays
