MAFS legend shows off her incredible weight loss after shedding more than three stone with gastric sleeve op
MARRIED At First Sight star Gemma Rose Barnes has shown off her svelte figure followng her dramatic weight loss surgery.
Gemma, who appeared in MAFS UK last year, went under the knife and had a gastric sleeve fitted in Turkey.
The pounds have slowly continued to drop off and she has now given fans an update on how it is going.
Taking to Instagram, Gemma has posed for a couple of shots while wearing an autumnal black jumper dress.
Her outfit features a tie around the waist, which highlights how much she has slimmed down, and she is posing with a hand on her hip.
Gemma added a simple black heart for the caption and fans have been quick to comment on her new pictures.
One wrote: “You look fabulous but always thought you did x.”
Another added: “Unrecognisable!”
And someone else chimed in: “Holy moly, you have lost so much, looking fantastic xx.”
Gemma flew to Turkey for her weight loss operation earlier this year.
She later opened up about her surgery, which she says has ‘changed her life’.
Gemma said: “I prioritise protein when I eat, (most of the time) we are all human and I still crave certain things.
“Getting used to this new way of life and the mental struggles of fast weight loss.
“I aim to loose a stone and a half more I may loose a little more but I will gain again after as my portions increase in time.
“The sleeve is a tool, trust me you can stall in weight loss and there are certain foods you can eat lots of like chocolate and crisps so it’s not fool proof but I try and utilise this as much as possible.
“This has been once in a lifetime for me.”
Gemma married Matt Murray on MAFS UK in 2022.
She later left the experiment after discovering her husband had cheated on her with co-star Whitney Hughes.
Gemma claimed in an interview with the Mail that the whole experience of being on MAFS UK left her feeling “suicidal”.
She said: “It was the worst experience of my life. I felt trapped. We weren’t being held hostage but if you said ‘I have to go now’ – I wouldn’t call it manipulation but there was coercion on their side to convince you to stay.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson said at the time: “Married at First Sight UK episodes are carefully put together and we ensure that what we broadcast is a fair and accurate reflection of the events that unfolded.
“Contributor care and safety is of paramount importance and we work closely with our production partners to ensure robust contributor care protocols are in place and that appropriate support is available to contributors before, during and after broadcast, including access to our experts and an independent psychologist.”
