Three massive ITV Coronation Street theories: soap icon goes on the run and dark twist ahead for Dee-Dee Bailey
WEATHERFIELD residents are in shock following the death of serial killer Stephen Reid.
The police are on the case, but what conclusion will they reach? Here’s what we could expect to unravel on Coronation Street.
1. Beloved resident turns fugitive
Todd Boyce bowed out of the ITV soap on Friday, October 13, 2023, after his on-screen alter ego met a horrific fate and was killed off.
The police have their sights on multiple suspects for Stephen Reid’s death which include Underworld boss Carla Connor (Alison King), Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell).
However, one long-standing resident manages to catch all of their attention this week.
Coming up, in the café, a grieving Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) is in denial about the extent of Stephen’s villainy, and blasts Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) for killing her son.
Peter responds that he was only protecting Jenny Connor after Stephen threatened her life during one last horrifying showdown in the cobbles.
Later on, Swain and Craig call at the Street Cars flat and arrest Peter on suspicion of murder.
The coppers question Peter about his threats to kill Stephen before doing exactly that and the cabbie fights to keep a lid on his temper.
Peter gets agitated as he defiantly maintains to Swain and Craig that he didn’t set out to kill Stephen but would do the same again without hesitation.
As Carla Connor’s husband, Peter has a strong motive for wanting to kill Stephen due to the fact the villainous businessman spiked her with LSD earlier this year.
Peter had to watch his other half crumble under the pressure as she was seemingly diagnosed with a relapse into psychosis.
Fans have come up several theories about Peter Barlow as actor Chris Gascoyne is set to take a break from life in Weatherfield after more than two decades.
Many viewers have speculated he may be killed off by Stephen or be arrested for avenging Carla.
However, one more likely theory could see Peter going on the run to escape justice for Stephen’s death.
2. Shock affair rocks the cobbles
Meanwhile, sparks continue to fly between Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor.
Despite being engaged to Daniel Osbourne, the former Rovers barmaid portrayed by Charlotte Jordan has shared charged moments with Ryan Connor.
Ryan (played by Ryan Prescott) saved Daisy from an acid attack, taking most of the hit and, since then, the pair have been harbouring complicated feelings from one another.
This week, another Weatherfield resident realises the pair are failing to keep their attraction to themselves and decides to take advantage of the situation.
This resident is none other than wayward teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), with whom Ryan moved in after leaving Carla Connor and Peter Barlow’s home.
Coming up, Ryan meets Daniel (Rob Mallard) and reveals he’s got cold feet about giving a talk to the kids in the STC.
Daniel is confident he’ll get a lot out of it and persuades Ryan to go with him.
The teacher later summons Daisy to the STC to help allay Ryan’s fears and the latter is grateful when she offers to give the talk with him.
Later on, Daisy praises Ryan’s performance at the STC and tells him it’s proof he can show his scars and can stop resorting to anonymously stripping off for cash – but will he agree?
While this remains to be seen, Ryan is still struggling with his steroids abuse and, after injecting himself, he sets off for a walk with Daisy.
But at the precinct, he accidentally gets sprayed with fizzy pop as Max Turner and his friend Gav lark about.
Ryan sees red and pins Gav to the ground, and has to be held back from punching his lights out.
Daisy’s stunned as Ryan breaks down in tears and is shocked when he confesses he’s been abusing steroids.
Back home, Ryan goes live on his fitness account, removing the filter and announcing it’s time to stop lying.
Ryan bravely reveals his face and opens up to his followers in a livestream video, confirming he’s closing the account and intends to start being himself again.
After watching the video, Daisy calls at Ryan’s flat and praises his bravery.
She pecks him gently on his scarred cheek, then on the lips and things soon escalate as he responds and they start kissing passionately.
Viewers have seen it coming from a mile away and despite her guilt the following morning, Daisy may embark on an affair with Ryan Connor.
But how will she react when Lauren decides to use the situation for her own benefit by blackmailing Ryan into giving her £1k?

3. Newcomer keeps secrets
Ronnie and Ed Bailey (portrayed by Trevor Michael Georges) were flabbergasted when their building project had to be put on hold when Leo Thompkins’ remains were found on their site.
With money growing scarce, Ed is all over the place as he tries to repair the damage and his daughter Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) notices he has taken no interest in her new boyfriend Joel Deering (Callum Lill).
This week, Ed apologises to Dee-Dee for being too distracted to take an interest in her new boyfriend and offers to take her and Joel for lunch to get to know him.
However, the solicitor soon makes a shocking discovery about her father.
At No.3, Dee-Dee sifts through the mail and shows Ed an envelope from a credit card company addressed to Norris Cole, who passed away in 2021.
Ed’s card is later declined in the café and Joel kindly pays for his coffee with his own card as both men remain unaware of the other’s identity.
Dee-Dee later arrives at the Bistro for lunch with her father and her new boyfriend, leaving Ed embarrassed to be introduced to Joel.
Joel doesn’t mention the declined card incident and Ed covers his embarrassment when he pays for lunch.
But like so many newcomers before him, Joel appears too good to be true, prompting some fans to believe if he could be hiding something from Dee-Dee.
Could he get involved in Ed’s money woes before turning his back on him?
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
