I’m a hygiene specialist who just holidayed in Paris – the £1.49 Etsy buy so I don’t bring bedbugs home
A SAVVY woman has revealed her top tips to prevent bedbugs from invading your home.
Madame Sweat is a hygiene expert and often uses her social media account to share some of her hacks to keep clean and fresh.
In one clip, she explained that she had just travelled to Paris, where there is currently a serious bedbug problem.
“I just came back from vacation and they’ve got a problem with bedbugs,” she told viewers at the start of the clip.
“Paris got them first on public transit, so don’t sit down on public transit. Bedbugs like to hide in the crevices of seats.”
However, she said that if you get them in your home you have two options to get rid of them.
The first one is chemical treatment, which means pesticides, while the second option is heat treatment.
“Bedbugs hate heat and my preference is the heat treatment simply because it’s pesticide-free,” she shared.
She then explained that if you’re travelling, there’s a simple way to prevent bedbugs from getting into your suitcase and coming back home with you.
“I always get Zip Lock bags for my clothing, it seals off all the clothes in a bag,” she went on.
Luckily, these bags are easy to find on Etsy, where they cost just £1.49, making it a budget-friendly option.
TikTok user @madamesweat continued: “Take a face cloth and go through all the crevices. Make sure you’re not bringing any bedbugs home.”
People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “Spray your suit case with alcohol (lots of it) and just wait.. if you have any bedbugs they’ll start coming out .. if you don’t you’re good !”
Another said: “I own a heat treat company for 14 years yes heat is superior when dealing with bedbugs.”
A third shared: “Also, when you get home. Bag your luggage and keep it separate outside your home in the garage or basement if possible for 48-72hours”.
While a fourth added: “Suitcases never touch the beds, at hotels or home. Always wipe down exterior with disinfectant. Carry thin blanket to sit on plane too.”
