My biggest fall decorating hack saves money in the long run – it looks great and lasts the whole season, even in rain
A DECORATING guru has shared her tip for keeping her fall decor looking fresher longer.
The stylish trick also saved her money each autumnal season.
“Love decorating your porch for fall but hate dealing with dead mums? Here’s what I do,” said Tracy (@remingtonranchfarmhouse).
The Wisconsin based DIYer’s advice for maintaining longer lasting mums involved using fake ones.
“I’ve used them for the past few years and they’re the best,” she said.
Tracy explained her easy steps for achieving the festive fall look.
“Take your porch planter or pot, add some floral foam.”
She then took one half of her mum plant and placed it on top.
Next, she secured the mum into the foam using stakes.
Tracy had many reasons to love her faux mums.
“They come in a variety of colors which is great for decorating and they’ve held up great in all kinds of weather here in Florida.”
She said they could even withstand heat and rain.
Rather than having to be discarded, her faux finds simply get packed away until its time for them to make an appearance the following fall.
This saves money – and a messy cleanup.
Her other pro-tips included using a planter that is slightly smaller so it looks more realistic.
When using a larger pot she also incorporates other faux plants such as cabbages – just make sure the mums spill over the front.
Many fall lovers were impressed with the decorating trick.
“Great idea!” said one awed follower.
Another viewer was excited to try the faux mum hack herself: “Perfect idea! My porch is full of sun all day and I can never keep anything alive!”
