I’m a building firm boss — I got an evening gown made of six high-vis vests for industry bash
BUILDING firm boss Kelly Cartwright will go to the wrecking ball — in an evening gown made of high-vis vests.
Kelly, 31, used her work gear as inspiration for something to wear to an industry bash.
Seamstress Hannah Wilde made the dress from six vests.
Kelly, who owns a construction recruitment firm in Norwich, said: “I always struggle with anxiety and imposter syndrome but I think wearing something your comfortable in, settles your nerves a little bit more.
“When you are walking into an awards ceremony, you feel like you don’t belong but I feel comfortable on a building site in my PPE.
“I joked and thought I should just wear my PPE but I thought I can’t rock up in muddy jeans and a hi-vis jumper so I thought I would take it to the next level.
“I loved the dress and Hannah smashed the brief completely.”
Kelly attended the National Federation of Builders’ Top 100 Influential Women in Construction Awards on October 4.
Kelly added: “Obviously everyone was astounded at what it looked like.
“Everyone sorta got the message behind it as well and it was really well received.”
