Full list of 186 bank branches set to close as over 1,000 lost from high streets by the end of the year
NEARLY 200 bank branches are still set to close taking the total number lost from the high street to over 1,000 by the end of 2023.
The closing of Barclays on the high street in Pwllheli on November 15 will mark the milestone figure.
Another 24 Barclays bank branches will disappear in November and December.
The figures come from data from Link, which has tracked the closure of bank branches since February 2022.
Bank of Scotland‘s in 17 locations are also earmarked for shuttering between now and May, 2024.
Halifax will lose 39 branches by July next year, and Lloyds 57 by September 2024.
Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are all part of Lloyds Banking Group.
Meanwhile 10 Natwest branches are shutting between now and the end of the year, with a further three to follow in 2024.
Virgin Money will close 32 branches by the end of 2023, and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) will lose two locations at the start of November.
All in all, 186 locations open now will soon be gone for good and by September 2024, the total shut since the start of 2022 will be 1,139.
It comes as banks serve customers online and via apps, rather than through bricks and mortar locations.
More could follow to as there are six HSBC branches that have been earmarked for closure – but no date has yet been given.
A further two Natwests in Horwich and Shoreham-by-Sea, and three Barclays, in Treorchy, Risca and Harleston are also due to shut, but with no date confirmed.
Banks could also announce further plans to shut bank branches in future.

What can I do if my branch is closing?
If you rely on the face-to-face contact that is offered by your high street branch, finding out it is closing can be a worrying time.
However, there are a number of ways that you can still access basic banking services when your local branch has closed down.
If you have a local Post Office you should be able to do most basic banking tasks with them.
This will not apply if you need to apply for a loan or open a new bank account, but they should be able to help you with basic banking.
Many banks also offer a mobile banking service where the bank brings a bus to your area where services that are usually available at your branch can be obtained.
Just give your bank a call and they will be able to tell you if they offer that service and when and where the bus will be.
Other banks use buildings such as village halls or libraries to offer mobile banking services.
If you are unsure how to access the services that your local branch used to offer it is best to give them a call and ask what options are available to you.
