Teachers union chief Geoff Barton questioned whether AI in schools was good use of taxpayers’ money[/caption]

He will place a “personalised AI lesson-planning assistant” in every classroom.

Mr Sunak will today announce £2million funding for online hub Oak National Academy.

It will create AI-powered teaching tools.

Thousands of schools already use quizzes and lesson plans generated during a pilot scheme.

Mr Sunak said: “AI has extraordinary potential to reform our education system for the better — with considerable value for both teachers and students.

“Oak National Academy’s work to harness AI to free up the workload for teachers is a perfect example of the revolutionary benefits this technology can bring.”

But teachers union chief Geoff Barton questioned whether it was good use of taxpayers’ money.

The Association of School and College Leaders boss said: “Schools and colleges are struggling to stay afloat as a result of Government underfunding. They deserve clarity on how this money’s being spent.”
