I’m a wedding planner – the three things you must never DIY yourselves… even if it does cut costs
A WEDDING planner has warned couples who want to DIY their big day on the three things they should never cut costs on.
Georgina is a professional wedding planner and describes herself as “think Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner, but I won’t run off with your fiancè”.
During a get-ready-with-me video, she told viewers: “If you’re planning a DIY wedding, here are the three things you cannot cut costs on”.
She explained that the first thing people should absolutely not skimp out on is staffing, which includes bartenders and waiters.
“Now this is not an advert for coordination, but it is an advert for whatever staff you are having,” she went on.
“Make sure they are proper staff, including things like bartenders and waiting staff.”
The second thing she believes couples should put an emphasis on is what she calls “home essentials”.
She said: “Just think about things that you would have at home that you would need at a wedding.
“For example, glassware, bins, toilets… If you cut costs on the essentials people will notice.”
The final thing she warned couples not to skimp out on was sound, meaning PA systems and microphones.
“A speaker system cutting out is not a vibe,” she said.
She ended the video by asking viewers on a scale of 1 to 10 how DIY their wedding is, with the highest number being a barn “with no suppliers and you’re doing everything yourself”.
In the caption, she added: “DIY couples out there, These are the 3 things you cannot cut costs on!”
People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “10, we have a tipi and a forest and some tables thats it,” followed by a crying with laughter emoji and a red heart emoji.
Another said: “Haha probably a 7. It’s a backyard wedding at a cottage and we’re doing everything ourselves except the catering and florals”.
TikTok user @georginarosevents replied: “Omg love the sound of this!!! … need a coordinator!” followed by a winking emoji.
While a third shared: “10 [crying with laughter emoji] must be mad but we’re getting the barn cleaned up atm ready to start getting everything built in”.
