Huge sci-fi movie franchise returning after five years off screens as Netflix drops first look pic
NETFLIX has revealed the first film poster for a highly anticipated movie sequel.
The streamer has finally given eager fans an update and announced that the film is set to hit screens next year.
After more than two years of waiting, Code 8 fans will be delighted to learn that the sequel to Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell’s sci-fi action film will come to fruition in 2014.
For Geeked Week, Netflix released on their platform an all-new first-look film poster and synopsis for Code 8: Part II.
In January, Collective Pictures announced that the film was in production, with Jeff Chan directing and writing the script alongside Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe.
The Code 8 movie, released in 2019, follows Connor Reed, a man with superpowers played by Robbie Amell, who works with a group of bandits to raise money to heal his sick mother.
Code 8: Part II is produced by Amells, Chan, and Paré.
The synopsis for the upcoming sequel reads: “In a world where 4 percent of the population are born with abnormal powers and heavily policed by high-tech robotics, an ex-con teams up with the drug lord he despises to protect a young girl from a corrupt police sergeant.”
When it was announced that there would be a sequel, Stephen said: “Code 8 is an incredibly personal and special project for all of us. We built the world in the first one, and now we’re ready to blow it out!”
In 2016 Indigogo crowdfunded the film of the same name into a successful 10-minute short movie, and it became the second most successful crowdfunding campaign for a movie.
With a bigger and better budget, in 2019, a 1 hour 38-minute Code 8 movie was released.
Speaking about the success of the movie, Robbie told ComicBook.com: “Luckily, the short kind of caught fire.”
“Front page Reddit, which was huge for us. And the Indiegogo campaign was just a smashing success, which was so incredible and has been so fantastic to get to share a movie that means so much to me with so many people.
“You know, we’ve had 28,000 backers or something. I can’t remember the exact number. And we’ve had a global premier tour, sharing it with people across Canada and the U.S. And London and Australia.”
The 2019 film was released on New Year’s Eve and gained moderate succession upon its release.
In April 2020, Code 8’s visibility skyrocketed when it landed on Netflix’s platform and became one of the most-watched films at the time.
