People ignored my good looks when I was fat – now I’ve shed 180lbs they treat me differently, pretty privilege is real
A MODEL reckons she gets treated differently to others because of her good looks – but only after shedding 100lbs.
Brooke Barrows, 30, was miserable as her weight soared to as much as 400lbs, or 28st.
But she’s lost the pounds and managed to carve out a successful career as an influencer.
And she believes more doors are open for her now than before simply because people see her as more attractive.
Brooke said: “I do think pretty privilege exists. It is very real.
“I can say that confidently as someone who used to be considered ugly. It’s very crazy.
“When you are extremely overweight people aren’t really looking at your pretty face. They just see this overweight person in front of them.”
Brooke has been extremely open about her battles with her figure throughout her life.
After hitting 28st she fought to lose weight and is now down to about 15st.
A boob job and a tummy tuck helped boost her confidence and she now has no issue showing off her curves.
Talking to the Business of Beauty podcast, Brooke told how she was amazed at how the world treats her now compared to when she was at her heaviest.
She said: “When you lose weight you just see people treat you so differently.
“They see you as a human being, Add the fact that you’re pretty, oh my god.
“People compliment you everywhere.”
Brooke worked as a nurse and was stunned when a firm offered her cash to plug their products.
That led her down a whole new career path and she now has a squad of hundreds of thousands of fans online.
But she was stunned when she got grief from trolls for being so happy and confident about how she looked.
Some comments had a go at her for how her new boobs looked in an online clip.
Brooke blasted back: “I did not have breasts when I was 400lbs. Then I lost the weight and wanted breasts.
“My doctor just put in implants. That’s why my breasts don’t hang over.
“I really like my t*ts and that’s really all that matters.”
Brooke is trying to carve out as a career as an actress alongside modelling jobs.
And she told how dating can be a minefield because of how she looks.
She reckons men sometimes expect her to be an airhead and are not impressed to discover she has a brain.
Brooke said: “When you go on a date they find out that you are so nuanced and have so many things about you. Maybe you’re really weird and you have weird interests and hobbies.
“And they are like ‘you are not what I thought you were’. That’s very common too. They are like ‘that’s not what I signed up for’.”
