Huge BBC drama announces new spin-off series after 12 seasons on screens – but fans aren’t happy
A HUGE BBC drama has announced an exciting brand new spin-off series.
Death in Paradise is heading Down Under as Beeb bosses have ordered an Australian version of the show.
Billed as Return to Paradise, the show will be set in the fictional beachside town of Dolphin Cove.
The broadcaster has confirmed the new spin-off to the smash hit series will begin filming next year.
Viewers will be introduced to Australian ex-pat Mackenzie Clarke who lands in from London, having been uprooted from her job at the Met Police to investigate a murder.
Dolphin Cove is her hometown, but Mackenzie couldn’t be any less happy to be back – and the locals aren’t excited to see her either.
The six-episode series follows on from Death in Paradise’s other spin-off show Beyond Paradise.
It gained a cult fan base when it launched last year, and became the most-watched drama of the year.
The show’s success sparked execs to green light another instalment, including a Christmas special.
Death in Paradise originally ran for 12 series – with the final instalment airing in 2022.
It starred an array of famous faces including Ben Miller, Ralf Little, Danny John-Jules and Kris Marshall.
Reacting on social media to the new spin-off fans have cautiously welcomed the news.
One warned: “Don’t dilute the brand.”
A second posted: “Don’t over kill same drama making too many spin offs!! like cooking format #MasterChef is with it’s far too many versions in primetime!”
“How many more spin-off’s ? it is making me dizzy,” said a third.
While a fourth simply commented: “Running out of ideas!”
