I’m a gynaecologist – don’t bother waxing before your appointment, but there’s five important things you must know
A GYNAECOLOGIST has revealed the six things you need to know before visiting.
So if you’ve got an appointment coming up, or know someone who does, you’ll need to listen up and take notes.
According to a gynaecologist at South Shore Women’s and Children’s Hospital, in Lagos, Nigeria, there’s no need to wax or shave before an appointment.
However, it is important that you drink water before your meeting and you’ll need to have your medical history ready too.
Sharing the advice on social media, the gynaecologist said: “Six things to know before your first gynaecologist visit.”
She then explained: “Be prepared for honest and direct communication with your doctor.
“Depending on what you are coming for you might need a scan or to run some tests.
“You won’t need a pelvic exam yet if you’ve never been sexually active.”
The woman then added that you’ll need to have your medical records ready before your appointment, as she continued: “Have ready, your medical history, especially your menstrual cycle information.
“It’s not necessary to shave or wax before you visit the gynaecologist.”
Finally, she explained why you should drink water before heading to your appointment, as she advised: “Drink some water before your appointment because your urine sample may be taken.”
The health pro later confirmed: “You don’t need a complicated reason to see a gynaecologist.
“Even if it is the smallest of problems and it bothers you, please see your gynaecologist ASAP.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @southshorelagos, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 16,000 views.
But this isn’t the only gynaecologist who has shared some helpful advice recently.
Two other gynaecologists, both from Ochsner Health, also explained that they too don’t care about hair.
They explained: “Waxed? Shaved? Vajazzle? Just came back from the gym? We don’t care.”
Not only this, but they also revealed that they won’t be fussed if you’re on your period and no matter what, you can talk to them about anything.
They added: “Number two – we know that you have periods. We’re not worried about that.
“Even if you’re bleeding, come on in.
“A lot of times, we don’t even have to do a pelvic exam and it will have no bearing on what we do or talk about that day.
“Number three – you should never be embarrassed.
“Talk to us about anything. Believe me, we’ve heard it all – sexual preferences, STD history, what about your discharge?
“Let us have it. You cannot scare us.”
