My boyfriend proposed to me with the perfect ring, but trolls spot devastating change after I took it to the jewellers
A WOMAN has opened up on the ordeal she went through following her engagement to her boyfriend.
The brunette beauty, whose name is unknown, took to her social media account to recount the whole story, explaining that her engagement ring “aged 100 years in 30 minutes”.
Showing a close-up of the gorgeous ring she was proposed to with, viewers could see an 18k yellow gold band with a large diamond in the middle alongside 11 smaller, more delicate ones on the sides.
“Everything about the ring was perfect, it just needed to be resized from a six to a four and a half,” she said.
The majority of the jewellers she approached gave her a turnaround time of two to three weeks, which didn’t work for her as she had an engagement shoot booked in.
But then she found one that could do the job in just 30 minutes.
After the time was up, she returned to find the ring fit and left. Later, when she had a chance to take a closer look at the ring, she realised there were some glaring issues.
“By the way, he charged me $190 [£151] for this,” she explained. “I was livid.”
“Now one of the first things I noticed was that it’s extremely misshapen, it’s no longer in a perfect circle,” she continued.
“It’s a lot thinner and it looks like they removed a lot of gold from the bottom of the ring. Close up you can see it’s no longer smooth even though they polished it and for some reason there’s a dent in one of the main prongs, which shouldn’t even be touched for resizing.
“Bottom of the ring is warped and completely scratched up, everything is wavy and that right there was the 18k stamp, completely buffed out.”
When she returned to the goldsmiths with the ring, she became worried over whether they switched out the diamonds for fake ones.
But before addressing this concern, she pointed out all the damage that had been done.
She said: “He was immediately defensive about the dent in the prong. He was like, ‘Well, this is your ring, it must have had that when you brought it in.”
The woman pushed back at this accusation by showing a photo of the ring before, which led him to put the ring on a metal size and use a hammer to lightly tap it.
“He gave me my money back and he said to bring it in after Thanksgiving,” so she did as it would have cost her £800 to fix it elsewhere.
She then shared their text exchange afterwards, where she told him all the issues she saw with the ring.
In the final update over the ring, TikTok user @ittybittycherry could be seen sitting in a car, making her way to pick up the ring.
She wore all her gold rings to show the goldsmith how knowledgeable she is on the matter.
“At first he was a little defensive but overall really apologetic and it really seemed like he wanted to make it up to me,” she said.
She then showed the before and after pictures, revealing that it now looked much closer to a perfect circle.
The woman explained: “He added a half shank of 18 karat gold to the bottom of the ring and here’s the new 18k stamp.
“It’s a little bit smaller and in a different place, but it’s there and that’s all I wanted.”
The dent on the prong was still there, but not as noticeable, while the entire ring was polished to look very smooth.
She then noticed how shiny the diamonds were and “a lot of people were concerned that he switched out the diamonds”.
So she went to get them tested.
“They tested every single one and they are still real diamonds,” she explained.
She then hit back at people saying it was her fault for accepting a 30 minute turnaround time as she said that is genuinely how long it usually takes.
Despite this, people were quick to claim the diamond was definitely switched.
“girl that’s a different diamond,” one person said.
Another chimed: “i’m afraid the middle diamond was switched for moissanite …”
And a third shared: “Girly he replaced your main diamond if you look at your before and after they are different colors,” followed by a crying emoji.
While a fourth added: “It can probably still be a real diamond but doesn’t mean he didn’t downgrade you. The prong dent is from removing the diamond”.
She replied: “No, it’s not. That part of the prong wouldn’t be damaged for that. It’s likely from the clamp during resizing.”
