I’m a plastic surgeon, the common anti-aging mistake that’s giving you ‘smoker’s mouth’ without the cigarettes
A BEVERLY Hills plastic surgeon has revealed a common anti-aging mistake that could give “smoker’s mouth.”
She warned even if a cigarette has never touched your lips you could still be subject to the same effect.
It will come as a shock to those who have taken up straws to protect their lip gloss.
But the constant puckering will inevitably leave its mark said TikTok Beauty Doc (@drsarmelasunder).
She has 345,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares her knowledge of “skincare, injectables, and plastic surgery.”
Her trio of suggestions for wrinkle-free skin are non-invasive, however.
“Number one,” she began her post. “Sleep on your back and avoid sleeping on your face.”
The danger was pressure points: “When you sleep on your face and apply pressure to certain areas you develop these sleep lines that turn into wrinkles over time,” she warned.
But there was a way of mitigating this: “At the very least get a sleep or wrinkle pillow that can support your head from above and below, so you don’t put any pressure on the sides of your face.”
Number two, embrace drinking without any aids.
“Avoid drinking through a straw to avoid lip wrinkles,” she urged.
“Repeatedly pursing your lips can create vertical lip wrinkle lines.
“They’re also called smoker’s lines but you don’t have to be a smoker to get them.
“They come from the constant puckering motion involved in smoking,” she said.
Lastly, avoid any exercise that causes strain on your neck muscles.
She said: “Repeated straining of the neck muscles creates the formation of these vertical neck bands.
“[They become] more prominent and make your neck age much faster than the rest of your face.”
It might be a simple case of isolating muscles in the gym.
“Many people recruit neck muscles when we should be using our core when doing certain exercises,” she wrote.
It wasn’t going to be easy, but adopting her suggestions might be beneficial in time, she said.
“I know some of these habits are hard to break but it can make a big difference in the long run.”
Commenters were a mix of those grateful for the advice and others quizzical about why aging was such a problem.
“Omg, or just live your life and age naturally,” wondered this person.
But this person was happy for the tips: “Thank you for sharing your knowledge.”
This viewer held their hands up: “Well I’m beyond help, I have it all.”
